Why Animas
Animas High School (AHS) is a better choice for me instead of Durango High School (DHS) due to quite a few factors. One of those factors is the smaller school environment that is more inviting for me. I found that at my old school, The Liberty School, I really benefited from having a very small school environment because the school had the flexibility to work with my learning styles. Coming from that small school, I did not want to go to a large school that would struggle to meet all of my needs. Additionally, I chose AHS for the social environment where the teachers try to make a meaningful connection with the students. In making that connection, the teachers can help give you more meaningful projects that you can connect with in order to make assignments more enjoyable and deepen learning. One of the most important reasons I am at AHS is the difference in learning styles and optional learning courses. The learning styles at AHS include project-based learning. Having the optional learning courses is nice to have if you want to do a project outside of school or want the knowledge for a career you like. The decision to attend AHS instead of DHS is the biggest decision that I have made on my own, I’m excited to see how it turns out!
Mountain BikingIn 2022, I raced mountain bikes for Animas High School in the freshman boys category. Over 1,800 students raced in the Colorado High School league in 2022 including over 250 freshman boys.
